You typed a sentence into a browser tab, waited about half a minute, and got a decent lower third. Then the actual job started. Download it, find it in the Downloads folder, import it, drag it, notice it has a black background where you wanted transparency, go back and export again.

People searching for Swishy alternatives are usually not unhappy with the animations. They are unhappy with one of three other things: the trip back to the edit, the credit arithmetic, or a format that did not come out the way the sequence needed it.

Facts we could not find on a vendor's own site are not in this article, and neither are opinions about how well any of these tools work on a real deadline, because we have not run them all on one.

What Swishy is, on its own pages

Swishy is a web app. Its homepage calls it "Your AI motion designer for stunning animations and typefaces" and suggests desktop for the best experience. The template gallery shows 100+ ready-made animations grouped into text, graphics, overlays, logos, social, charts and data, money, app and website, UI elements and launch videos. Their counters read 30 seconds average generation time, 500K+ animations created and 10K+ creators.

You can build a single scene, or turn on a multi-scene toggle and get a four-part story: hook, problem, solution, call to action. Editing happens in an AI chat plus manual settings on the right, with a version history toggle to page back through earlier states.

Export, per their docs, offers MP4, GIF or MOV, each with Fast, Balanced or High quality. Transparency is the line to read twice: "Transparent backgrounds are available for GIF and MOV, but not MP4." The editor has a transparency toggle, and the docs add that the background you see behind it is only a preview and will not appear in exports.

There is no public pricing page (both /pricing and /plans return 404 today). The plans live in the app's upgrade dialog, and on 2 September 2026 they read: Beginner at $19 a month, $144 a year or $399 once, with 150 AI credits a month and the Mini, Starter and Best models; Pro at $49 a month or $300 a year, with 400 credits, all models, 4K, custom fonts, team collaboration and priority support. Generations are priced by the model you pick: Mini costs nothing, Starter 1 credit, Best 5, Pro 8. Extra credits are sold in packs from 150 for $25 up to 6 000 for $1 000, and those expire one year after purchase. Their FAQ states that subscription payments are generally non-refundable once a billing period begins.

So a Beginner subscriber who works on the Best model gets 30 full-quality generations a month, and unlimited draft-quality ones on Mini.

The measure that matters for an editor

Compare these tools on output quality and you will go in circles. Compare them on this instead: how many moves stand between "the animation is right" and "the clip is on my timeline, in the right format, at the right frame rate".

Browser tools you can swap in directly

Easymotion is the closest like-for-like move. Same idea, chat with an AI and get a motion graphic, with a curated template library on the front page. Basic is $10 a month for 40 credits, Plus $20 for 100, Pro $60 for 300, and yearly billing gives two months free. Editing templates and exporting them is free with no card, while prompting from scratch needs a paid plan. Exports are MP4, MOV and GIF at 30 or 60fps, 1080p or 4K, with transparent MOV, and clips run up to 180 seconds. Unused credits roll over on Plus and Pro. There is a model picker that defaults to Auto, and the credit cost appears before you generate.

Jitter comes from the design-tool side rather than the prompt side, and it is worth knowing where its ceilings are. The free tier gives unlimited drafts, three workspace files, limited AI credits, uploads to 20 MB and 720p 30fps exports. Pro removes the watermark and unlocks 1080p 60fps with ProRes or WebM. Transparent exports, per their help centre, "are only available on our Max and Ultra plans", which is the sentence that decides it for anyone making overlays.

Plugins that live inside Premiere

PremiereCopilot is a bundle of twelve AI tools for Premiere Pro, of which motion design is one, called Vibe Motion and described as "Motion design, in 1 prompt. Up to 4K 60fps. No watermarks. Transparent background." The rest is editing labour: silence cuts, captions, subtitles, multicam podcasts, chapters, reframing. Free costs nothing and carries daily limits, Pro+ is $6.39 a month billed annually at $77 a year, Creator is $15.99 a month with uncapped credits, Studio is four seats at $63 a month. The number to check against your week is in their comparison table: Vibe Motion runs 2 a day on Free and 20 a day on Pro+. AI processing happens on their servers.

Butter Motion does one thing rather than twelve. You describe a scene in the panel, watch a live preview, adjust it, and the clip renders on your own machine into a _ButterMotion folder beside your project file, imports into a "ButterMotion" bin and lands at the playhead. A solid clip comes back as MP4, a transparent one as MOV in ProRes 4444 on every plan and every tier, at 3 to 20 seconds, 720p through 4K, 24 to 60fps, in 16:9, 9:16 or 1:1. Because the frame rate and ratio are set before you generate, the clip drops in without conforming, and because the render is local there is no queue in front of you and no upload step. Generations cost 7, 10 or 15 credits by tier, with the price shown right above the button, and nothing else moves that number. Pro is $12 a month for 500 credits, Studio $39 for 2 000. Transcript Studio is the one to watch if captions are the deliverable. It pulls Premiere's word-level transcript into the plugin and generates word-synced animated subtitles, alongside prompt-driven motion graphics in ProRes 4444 with alpha. Its site currently shows a "Coming Soon" badge and a waitlist, with Windows at launch and macOS later. Pricing on the cards today reads 9.99 euro a month, 89 euro a year or 149 euro once, VAT included, after a 14-day trial. Note the unusual requirement: a Claude Pro subscription of your own for the AI generation.

The unfashionable option

Envato Elements is still the answer for a lot of working editors. Core is $16.50 a month for unlimited downloads across 29+ million assets including Premiere project templates, Plus is $39, Ultimate $168. You are not describing an animation, you are opening someone else's, retyping the text and matching your colours. It is slower per graphic than a prompt and completely predictable, which is why it survives.

When Swishy is still the right call

Do not switch out of habit. Swishy stays the better tool if you do not edit in Premiere at all, if you work across machines and want your projects and version history in the cloud, if a colleague has to open the same animation and change a word, or if browsing a gallery of 100+ finished pieces beats staring at an empty prompt field. Nothing in a plugin gives you that.

How to choose

Count your overlays. If your week is fourteen graphics that sit on top of footage in one sequence, the download-import-drag loop is the expensive part, and a plugin removes it. If your week is two hero animations for social, the browser wins on convenience and on price. If it is captions, look at Transcript Studio. If it is silence cutting with a bit of motion attached, PremiereCopilot is hard to argue with at $6.39 a month.
