Animated infographics for video, made inside Premiere Pro

An infographic in an edit is usually a chart someone built in After Effects or a template with five placeholder bars that never match your data. Here the numbers go into the prompt, and the plugin builds the chart around them: the right number of stages, the right labels, values that count up to the exact figure.

The example is a sales funnel, but the same approach works for bar charts, donuts, pictograms, timelines and KPI cards.

The prompt behind this clip

This exact text produced the clip above, word for word:

📝

Sales funnel that is actually funnel shaped, wide at the top and narrowing to the bottom, five stacked stages: Visitors 48,200, Signups 9,640 (20%), Trials 3,860 (40%), Paid 1,160 (30%), Renewed 870 (75%). Each stage slides in from the top and its number counts up, the conversion rate sits to the right of each stage. Full frame dark background #0B0B0C, clean, no extra decoration.

Settings: Ultra tier, 16:9, 1080p, 60 fps, 7 seconds. The page plays a smaller copy of the render.

How to make it in Premiere

  1. Open your project and go to Window → Extensions → Butter Motion. The panel docks next to your other windows, so you never leave the edit.
  2. Set the chips under the prompt to match your sequence: 16:9, 1080p and the frame rate of your sequence, 7 seconds for a five stage chart. Matching aspect, resolution and frame rate means the clip lands on the timeline with nothing to conform.
  3. Leave Background on With background if the graphic fills the frame. Pick Transparent if it should sit on top of your footage: you get a MOV with alpha (ProRes 4444), and it needs an empty video track above the shot.
  4. Leave the tier on Ultra, the default, in the box left of the Generate button. Flash is cheaper and fine for a quick draft.
  5. Paste the prompt, put in your own text and numbers, and press ↑ (or Cmd+Enter / Ctrl+Enter). The card goes through queued, generating, checking layout and rendering. It takes a few minutes, and you can keep cutting while it works.
  6. On the result screen, choose Unlock customization (free for subscribers) to change text, colours and fonts by hand, or type a change into the Tweak bar ("make the stages slide in slower").
  7. Press To timeline. The clip is rendered on your computer, imported into the «ButterMotion» bin and placed at the playhead.

What to change for your data

Why not a template

A chart template has a fixed number of bars and fixed proportions, so you end up hiding the extra bars and nudging keyframes until the heights look right. A generated chart is built for your data from the start, renders at the resolution and frame rate of your sequence, and keeps its numbers editable.

What it costs

One generation at the tier you picked: Flash 7 credits, Ultra 10, Animation 15. Transparency, resolution, frame rate and length do not change the price. For subscribers the controls and the first tweak on each generation are free, and each tweak after that is 5 credits. Rendering and dropping the clip on the timeline cost nothing, and there is no watermark. Plans and credit packs are in the pricing section, the details in How credits work.
