Short answers to the questions people ask most. Each one links to a fuller page where there's more to say.
Yes. Clips you generate are yours to use, including in commercial and client work. There's no watermark and no separate license to buy. What you make, you own.
On your own computer. The Butter Motion app sets everything up, then the render runs on your hardware and writes the file to your drive. Your footage never leaves your machine, because rendering needs no upload at all. The only things that travel to the AI are your text prompt and, if you attach one, that screenshot. See What is Butter Motion.
You need internet to generate, because the AI planning for each generation runs online. Rendering is local and happens on your computer. So you need a connection when you send a prompt, but the render itself doesn't depend on your bandwidth.
Each generation is planned by the AI, checked, and then rendered as a real video on your machine. It isn't pulled from a library of pre-made templates. You'll see it move through stages (generating → checking layout → rendering). More complex scenes and higher quality tiers take a little longer. See Queue & generation feed.
Generations are metered in credits, and the cost depends on the quality tier:
| Tier | Credits |
|---|---|
| Flash | 7 |
| Ultra | 10 |
| Animation | 15 |
Turning on 3D does not add to the cost. You pay the tier price either way. See How credits work and Quality tiers & 3D.
On Pro and Studio the first edit on every generation is free, and additional edits on the same generation cost 5 credits each. On Free every edit costs 5 credits, the first one included. Opening the customization controls to change colors, text and numbers by hand is free on every plan, Free included, and previewing, re-rendering and exporting are always free. See Editing a generation.
To cancel, press Cancel subscription on Billing & subscription. Cancelling stops your subscription from auto-renewing. It isn't a refund. You keep your access and your remaining plan credits until the end of the period you've already paid for. After that your account moves to the Free plan on its own: unused plan credits expire, 50 Free credits arrive every month, and top-up credits stay. See Renewal, cancellation & resuming.
Plan credits, Free credits included, last one cycle and expire when it ends. Top-up credits never expire. When you generate, plan credits are spent first (so the expiring ones get used before they lapse), and your permanent top-up credits are spent last. See How credits work.
Yes, Free. It costs nothing and needs no card: 50 credits every month, every generation tier, renders up to 4K with a transparent background, and the customization controls. On Free every AI edit costs 5 credits and there are no cloud presets. You can also buy one-time top-up packs on Free, and top-up credits never expire. See Plans: Free, Pro & Studio and Top-up packs.
One at a time. Your plan works on a single machine, and connecting a new device signs out the previous one. You can move between computers freely. You just can't be signed in on two at once. See Devices.
Adobe Premiere Pro 2022 or newer, on macOS or Windows. See System requirements for details.
Open the Butter Motion app, go to Settings, and under Premiere plugin click Remove… next to Remove the plugin. The panel disappears from Premiere. The app, your account, plan, credits, presets and render history all stay put. See Uninstalling Butter Motion.
Payments are processed by Lava.top, a payment provider, so Butter Motion doesn't store your card details. You can pay by card or PayPal for subscriptions. Top-up packs also support Apple Pay and, for rubles, SBP. See Payment methods & currencies.
US dollars, euros and rubles. Prices for each are shown on the pricing section of the site. See Payment methods & currencies.
Your payment history lists every payment with its date, amount and a Payment ID. If you need a formal fiscal receipt, email support@buttermotion.com. There's no separate downloadable receipt file.
Yes. Set the background to Transparent before generating, and Butter Motion renders an alpha channel (as a ProRes 4444 MOV) so a title or overlay drops straight onto footage on your timeline. See Background & transparency.
Yes. Attach an image in the composer (with the + button, by pasting with Ctrl/⌘+V, or by dragging it in) and the AI animates it. Images must be 25 MB or smaller. See Writing prompts.
